Having made his name as co-founder of prolific 90's experimental dance floor production team 'Blue Amazon', James' first release on Red Moon draws on influences from many diverse sources, fusing electronic elements with his own unique style of guitar playing and distinctive approach to the crafting of lyrics and vocal melodies. From the dark brooding guitar driven 'Ship of Dreams', to the upbeat euphoric 'Diamonds in the Dirt' and the almost ambient acoustic song 'A Wind Blows Softy', this EP refuses to be type-cast or neatly categorised, but it offers a tantalising glimpse of what to expect from his forth-coming Album exclusive on Redmoon Records. Here at Redmoon we just love all kinds of music and some members of the team have been actively involved in making and recording music since the 1980s. But so many great bands and musicians never really got the attention which we felt they deserved. So, in recognition of so many 'un-sung' yet undeniably talented musicians, we devote a section of our site to great and unusual music from yester-year. If you feel you have any old recordings which deserve to be dusted off and re-mastered, we'd love to hear from you :)
The Siciliano by Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco for flute and guitar, recorded at Bristol Guitar Club in 1997 on a Sony Walkman cassette recorder, left to mature in a drawer for fifteen years and then remastered by Red Moon. Wonderful performance and a magic sound. Available as a free CD quality download below
These tracks come from an EP recorded and released in 1988, recently remastered by us from an old cassette. We think they’re great and love the old cassette sound and eighties vibe. Just one unfortunate drop-out on one track and we’re trying to find a better copy to put this right. Really enjoyable listening though, and available as a free CD quality download below
Formed by Anthony Newman in the early eighties OK Chorale were an a cappella vocal group who performed for ten years all over the place, including regular appearances at the Edinburgh Festival and a tour of the US, and on the way recorded a number of albums. These tracks are from the debut album, released on cassette and recently recovered and remastered. We’re hoping to bring you more if the tapes have survived the years. ‘On the Slow Train’ is a real gem.
'When We Say Hello' was written by Revell Terry and Derek Maxwell (Pete's uncle). This is a recording by The Ink Spots with Wally Stott and his orchestra, released on Philips in 1962 and recently rescued from a warped piece of vinyl. Complete with pops and crackles and it still sounds good.
These performances are taken from a cassette of a recording made in a home studio by one the RM team in 1984 at the top of the stairs in a house in Bristol and recently recovered and remastered. Still working on them so they’re just for listening. If we can make the whole album sound good we’ll make it available as a download.
